The "International International Engineering Weeks – Autumn 2020" were successfully held at the Institute of Process Engineering (IPE) in recent weeks, which took place as the first joint international specialized event within the long-term international activity "International Engineering Project Weeks" (IEPW) carried out in cooperation with IPE FME BUT and the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering Augsburg University of Applied Sciences (FMPE AUAS), Germany.
The aim of the IEPW is to contribute to the intensification of joint research and education of students, doctoral students, young engineers and experts in process engineering through specialized several-week intensive collaborative work on solving specific research topics, especially in reducing energy consumption and negative environmental impacts. environment and optimization of process equipment designs.
"International Engineering Project Weeks – Autumn 2020" took place at IPE in the period from August 31 to September 25. Their main topic was "Gas microturbine as a source of energy for small and medium enterprises". Four FMPE AUAS students (Florian Eisenmann, Dominik Göttler, Christian Grunwald, Christoph Stammwitz) actively participated in the solution of this research-engineering project at IPE under the leadership of a selected team of IPE PhD students coordinated by PhD student Ing. Eva Konečná, with the consulting assistance of an international organizational team consisting of the supervisor of the engineering project Assoc. Prof. V. Máša and IEPW guarantors Assoc. Prof. Z. Jegla and Prof. Dr.-Ing. M. Reppich. The solution included both theoretical and design engineering work on the topic and experimental research on the Capstone C30 microturbine, which took place in the laboratories of IPE in the D5 building of NETME Centre.
The course of the event was partially marked by the consequences of the spread of coronavirus, as illustrated below by moments from the event. While the opening and the first half of these "Autumn engineering weeks" respectively took place in a "looser" period, their second half and the final defense of the achieved results of the students before the implementation committee was already held under the sign of stricter coronavirus measures. Nevertheless, all participants evaluate this first several-week intensive engineering works of students, PhD students and teachers as very successful and fruitful, which met the goals of the project topic. Further continuation of the IEPW is currently planned and targeted for next spring, when the intention is to hold "Spring international engineering project weeks 2021", especially for other interested students and PhD students, who are already registered by the guarantors of the event from both partner institutions.
