The Brno University of Technology ranked alongside the world's best universities, directly in the category of 701st – 800th place. In previous years, BUT did not figure in the Academic Ranking of World Universities at all and it is a great success for the university. The first place traditionally belongs to Harvard University.

The Shanghai ranking evaluates the research results of universities, with special emphasis on the number of academics who achieve the best citation impacts and on publications in the most prestigious journals, such as Science and Nature.
