Profile

Teaching Profile

Departments of IPE provide courses for the students of 3 – years Bachelor´s degree study programme, for 2 – years Master ´s degree study programme continuing and for PhD students. Courses in thermodynamics and hydrodynamics are given for all students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The teachers of the Institute provide also specialized and advanced lectures in hydrodynamics and thermomechanics for Master´s degree students who after passing all exams will defend their thesis. The best students can continue their studies in PhD study programme.

Scientific Profile

All departments of the Institute are involved in research and development projects granted by Czech Agency, Ministry of Education and Youth, Ministry of Industry and/or international agencies mainly from EU country – EUREKA, COST. The education and student mobility are granted by EU SOCRATES found and by bilateral agreements between Universities. Departments: Thermal and Nuclear Power Plant Equipment The department participates on international research programmes and development projects. The laboratory of the department is equipped with flue gas measuring systems and gas analysis equipment, such as gas chromatograph, IR photometer etc. The students can participate in international students exchange projects at cooperating university. Thermodynamics and Environmental Engineering Research activities focus on the following areas: Industrial and residential ventilation; Hybrid ventilation of residential buildings; Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) applied to optimisation of airflow in rooms, ducting and heat exchangers; Research on fuel injectors, spraying systems; Research on special exhaust system (Reinforced or Aaberg exhaust system); Dispersion of pollutants in city microscale (vehicular tunnels, street canyons, intersections, etc); Airflow in front of ventilation inlets, inlet constants; Airflow characteristics in rooms and industrial buildings; Use of solar energy for HVAC systems – double skin facade, solar air collectors, solar chimney; Research of high efficiency recuperators for microturbines; Research on continuous casting. Fluid Engineering The department cooperates with the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in UK within the 5th European framework project „Surge-Net“ and with the Stuttgart University in Germany (mutual invited lectures).
