The TU Brno Racing student team, composed of students from Brno University of Technology, is the best among Czech formula teams. What's more, in the past racing season, it broke into the world's top twenty. Specifically, it ranks 17th in the electric car category according to the final ranking of the Formula Student series for the 2022/2023 racing season.
The young engineers achieved their success with an electric monopost Dragon e3, which they used last summer to compete at Hungaroring in Hungary, Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic and Formula Student Germany in Hockenheim, Germany.
“We moved up thirteen places in the rankings compared to last year and are the highest ranked Czech team competing in the electric car category. Among the European teams, we are ranked eighth, which is a great result considering our relatively short time in the electric category and the great competition from mostly German teams,” says Marek Viktořík, the current team leader of TU Brno Racing.
However, there is no time to celebrate this excellent placement. The team has been working on this year’s car – a brand new electric monopost Dragon e4. They are planning on unveiling it to the public on 26 April. The team plans to move the rollout from its home Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, where it has workshops and facilities, to Brno's Špilberk Castle.
With the new formula, the team plans to take part in three or four races this summer. Thanks to the successful completion of the registration tests, the team has qualified for the most important European races of the Formula Student series and will choose whether to compete in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Germany or Switzerland.
TU Brno Racing was established at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Brno University of Technology in 2010. In 2021, the students completed the production of internal combustion engine monoposts by producing the tenth anniversary model of Dragon X and also presented the first model of the electric formula Dragon e1. TU Brno Racing is the largest student team at the BUT, with over 60 students involved in the development, production and operation of the team this year.
