Internships, apprenticeships, temporary jobs, trainee programmes and full-time work. Employers from the engineering and related fields offered all this at the 27th annual Career Fair, which was held for the first time as a two-day event on 5 and 6 March. A total of 72 employers came to the Faculty to present themselves.
The fair at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the BUT is annually accompanied by great interest from both students and exhibitors. This was one of the reasons for changing the format of the event to a two-day fair. "Six of our major partners presented themselves on both days of the fair, while other companies always presented themselves on one or the other day. This allowed us to listen to feedback from students and companies and to better distribute the event in time and space: the stands had more space and students had a better chance to visit all the companies they were interested in at their leisure. Initial feedback has been positive, and we will have the final results after processing the feedback from students and exhibitors," says event coordinator Iveta Hovorková about the new format.
Students often come to the stands of individual companies prepared and with very specific questions about the possibility of future employment in the company. They are helped by the website, where they can find company offers in advance as well as their interest in specific study programmes taught at the faculty.
"The Career Fair offers a unique opportunity for our students to meet relevant employers. We invite students of all years to the event, as companies offer not only full-time jobs, but also cooperation on bachelor's and master's theses, internships, trainee programs or temporary jobs in the field. We try to motivate our students not to be afraid to gain experience while studying, every such item on a CV can be useful in the future," adds Hovorková.
