Learning outcomes of the course unit
Nowadays, knowledge and skills acquired within the course are necessary for understanding of physical principles of so-called unconventional manufacturing technologies that differ from traditional technologies well-established in an engineering manufacture, i.e. chippy machining, dimensional (3-D) and plane (2-D) forming, welding, brazing and bonding, as well as the technical means of "fast prototyping".
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of conventional production technologies.
Co-requisites
Nothing.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. According to the possibility of teaching can be organized lectures for students by practitioners and excursions to companies focused on activities related to the course content.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
The examination has a written and an oral part. The examination tests the student’s knowledge and his/her ability of practical application.
Work placements
No organizing.
Aims
The student is made familiar with unconventional technologies, methods and machines, including equipment, such as electrospark erosion machining, electron beam cutting, electrolytic grinding, electrochemical machining, ultrasonic machining, water jet cutting, laser beam machining, plasma beam machining. They are teaching of new methods as stereolitography too.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
There are only lectures – the lessons take the form of lectures and it is very helpful to attend them because it is useful for passing the examination
Recommended optional programme components
Nothing.
