German B1 for Combined Type of Study

The course is intended to teach German as a foreign language at general level. Also dealt with is the language for specific technical purposes. It is focused on practical, everyday communication for the international workplace.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will be made familiar with general vocabulary for the workplace and grammar for more difficult and independent everyday communication.

Prerequisites

The course N5K deals with the general and technical language and is intended for intermediate students.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is intended for the combined form of study, indivudual work of students is directed by lectures and exercises taught en bloc.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended tutorials actively, worked-out assigned tasks and passed credit test. To obtain the credit a student must reach a minimum of 60% of total points at the credit test.

The examination consists of a written and oral part. The written part assesses communication skills (comprehension of written and spoken language) and language structures of general and technical language. The oral part of the examination has a form of discussion held on various everyday topics.

Aims

The aim of the course is to equip students for real-life tasks, such as describing problems or giving instructions that arise in a wide range of technical occupations.
Students will be able to communicate in more difficult situations using relevant language means, and master elementary terms of the language for specific purposes.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at seminars and the periodic test results (in the e-learning system Moodle) are systematically checked by the teacher.
