Content annotation :
The course deals with the operating theory, practical design approaches, and manufacturing methods applied for the most commonly used types of motors.It does not focus only on the design or the theory .Also discussed are the following topics:
electromechanical forces and torques, electromagnetic forces, energy approach, magnetic materials,insulation,bearing systems,theory of DC motors,different types of DC motors, induction asynchronous and synchronous motors,brushless DC motors, switched reluctance motors, piezomotors,stepping motors,requirements for motor applications , speed-torque characteristics,controls circuits, feedback element, semiconductors supply units.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
Characteristics of obtained knowledge and skills :
Students will be provided with the latest information about small electric motors, supply electronic unit, control circuits ,encoders ,gearheads etc.In laboratory exercises,the students will verify the parameters and characteristics of different types of DC motors,AC motors,stepping motors,piezomotors etc. All the mentioned types of motors can be used in different mechatronic systems.
Prerequisites
Knowledge and skills students are expected to have when they begin the course :
Basic knowledge of electrical engineering, mechanics and laboratory works.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Requirement for credit award,exam form and way and rules of final course classification:
Running evaluation of work in laboratory and numerical exercises.The exam has a written and an oral part.
Aims
Course objective :
The aim of the course is to make students familiar with small electric machines and microdrives. Students can apply the knowledge acquired in this course for their semestral works,diploma projects,diploma theses and last but not least in their future jobs.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Attendance at practical training is obligatory.

3. Electromechanical parts of microdrives.
4. Miniature classic and self supported winding of DC motors with permanent magnets.
5. DC motors with miniature cylinders and discs types.
6. Control of current, speed and position of microdrives.
7. DC micromotors – electronically commutated types.
8. Stepping motors, drive circuits, accurate positioning with load.
9. Switched reluctance motors and drives.
10.Piezomotors,types, functions,applications.
11.Small AC motors, types, functions, characteristics.
12.Special designs,encoders, control circuits/Smart Power IO, gearheads.
13.New trends in micromotors and microdrives, application area.

3 Measuring of moment of inertia in a small rotor.
4. Measure of speed, torque and position on the shaft of a motor.
5. Steady state and dynamic characteristics of small DC motors.
6. PCU 2000 Unit- servodrive with DC motor (permanent magnet).
7. Stepping motors, measuring of positioning and parameters.
8. Electric microdrives with 3phase stepper motor/linear and rotating.
9. Dynamics of switched reluctance motor.
10.Programming of position shaft of a microdrive with PCU 2000 Unit.
11.Linear and rotating piezomotors -characteristics.
12.Optimization of parameters of PID Controller/servodrive.
13.Behaviour of micromotors with change of their parameters – Bifurcation analyse.
