Course detail
Technical Diagnostics I
FSI-XT1 Acad. year: 2018/2019 Summer semester
The subject is focused on the advanced knowledge from technical diagnostics. The course continues the subject called Principles of technical diagnostics (CTD) in the bachelor’s study. The emphasis is put on the problems of theoretical knowledge in technical diagnostics, for example, embodiment of technical diagnostics into the product quality, clarification and description of diagnostic systems, furthermore analysis of diagnostic models, diagnostic signals and classification of technical diagnostics. Consecutively, attention is focused on individual diagnostic methods, for example, thermodiagnostics, level height diagnostics and flow diagnostics. Emphasis is always laid on the application of individual diagnostics to assess the conditions of technical objects. The lectures are completed with tutorials in which the most important themes are practised in detail. Results and conclusions in seminars are discussed. Technical diagnostics I will be followed by Technical diagnostics II which describes and analyzes the other diagnostic methods that are suitable for assessment of technical object conditions.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
A student acquires comprehensive and complex knowledge of the diagnostics which can apply in industrial mechanical/electrical engineering practice to solve different problems related to the aforementioned topics.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of mathematics and physics on the level of the bachelor studies completed so far is assumed.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The subject consists of lectures and laboratory. According to the possibility of teaching can be organized lectures for students by practitioners and excursions to companies focused on activities related to the course content.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
The subject consists of lectures and tutorials. Exercises are required.
The tutorial is completed with the credit (granted in the 13th teaching weekend). To gain the credit, 100% attendance, student’s activity in tutorials and the protocols processed from all laboratory exercises and approved by the teacher are required. The examination consists from a written test, and the student‘s maximum scoring rate can be up to 100. The evaluation of test results is given by the classification scale according to ECTS.
Aims
The objective of the subject is to acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge of the diagnostics of technical systems.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
The student attendance is checked in tutorials (presence and activity). The 100% participation in tutorials is required, and in case of absence, the student will be obliged to compensate, the alternative attendance will be specified by the lecturer.
