Course detail

Aventics Pneumobil Racing

FSI-0ZP Acad. year: 2018/2019 Winter semester

Lectures and excercises will be divided into separate learning blocks dedicated to individual aspects of racing car design. Students will familiarize with a pneumatic circuit, and its components supported by an experienced lecturrs and technicians. Students will acquire a practical experience with PLC systems, CAD systems and FEA simulation. Theoretical knowledge will be supported by series of experiments and testing drives on the pneumatic vehicle.
Students will have the opportunity to test and put their theoretical knowledge in practice. Special focus will be given to effectivity of design, innovative solutions and teamwork. The course will be concluded by a race between two student teams.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire the design of pneumatic circuit, propper choice of components and their control, engineering design of vehicle chassis and familiarize with other technical parts of racing pneumobile and principles of its design. The complexity of the subject leads to an overall widening of the horizons in design practice.

Prerequisites

Fundamental knowledge of drawing documentation, machine design and CAD modelling.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of chosen topics. Laboratory exercises are focused on practical topics presented on the example of pneumatic vehicle.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit is awarded on the following conditions: – active participation in the seminars, achievement of assigned tasks in laboratory exercises carried out on the vehicle.

Aims

The objective of the course is to make students familiar with the development process on the example of the student racing car with pneumatic drive. The course provides basic theoretical and practical knowledge to design a racing pneumobile, especially pneumatic circuits, its control and diagnostics, design of chasis and steering of the vehicle. Students will gain a good basis for design of a new racing pneumobile in further masters studies at the Institute of machine and industrial design.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendance at practicals is required. Absence at two seminars is allowed. Longer absence may be compensated for by special tasks according to instructions of the tutor.
