Course detail
Introduction to Mechatronics
FSI-1UM Acad. year: 2018/2019 Winter semester
The subject informs students on basic problems of Mechatronics. It defines basic principles of Mechatronics, explains typical cases of mechatronic systems at construction of machines, robotics, aircraft industry, automotive industry and in consumer goods. In addition, an overview and explanation of the principles of activity for construction elements of mechatronic systems is provided.
Interpretation will be completed added a solution of team project tasks specified by the decomposition of some of the real educational systems in the laboratory: an automatic coffee maker, electronic sewing machine, hydrocontrolled ventilation.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
The subject of the Introduction to Mechatronics enables students to acquire basic information on Mechatronics and its inclusion into the study program is caused mainly by its motivation importance. Moreover, students will learn the basic methodology for de-composition of complex systems.
Prerequisites
Secondary school knowledge is assumed.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
The graded course-unit credit granting is conditioned by handing over an independent work concerning a pre-set topic and passing the test of presented topics. The resulting classification is set by point assessment according to the Study and Examination Rules of the Technical University. Students can gain the points from 2 parts:
1. Written test of presented topics, 0-20 points.
2. Quality of independent home work 0-80 points.
Aims
The aim of the subject of the Introduction to Mechatronics is to get the students acquainted with basic issues and principles of mechatronics and to show examples of differences between mechatronic systems and classic constructions. The task of the subject is to explain the principles of activity of basic functional blocks of mechatronic systems.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
The subject contains only lectures. Missed lectures are not compensated.
