Course detail

Reliability 1

FSI-XS1 Acad. year: 2019/2020 Winter semester

The course is focused on the most advanced knowledge in technical system reliability. Emphasis is laid on understanding of reliability incorporation into the system quality. The students are familiarized with the terminology of reliability, additionally with standards and legislation in the area of reliability and with the management of reliability. Great attention is devoted to the reliability indicators and the predictive analysis. The reliability of unrepaired and repaired systems is also described in details, and further in relation to the predictive reliability analysis, the selected methods are thoroughly discussed in the special chapter. The means for increasing reliability, system maintenance, reliability tests and reliability information systems are also presented. The course is completed with the exercises where all topics are presented in the examples from the industrial practice. The results and conclusions are also discussed in the exercises.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

A student acquires comprehensive and complex knowledge of technical system reliability which can apply in industrial mechanical/electrical engineering practice to solve different problems related to the aforementioned topics.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of mathematics and physics at a level of university study. Also, the knowledge of the aforementioned special field in a scope of the previous bachelor study is expected.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.
According to the possibility of teaching can be organized lectures for students by practitioners and excursions to companies focused on activities related to the course content.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The course consists of exercises and lectures. Exercise is completed by credit (is awarded in 13th teaching week). 100% participation in the exercises and activity in the exercises is necessary for its acquisition. The student will prepare for the credit an individual work in the prescribed scope and quality, the topic of the thesis will be chosen at the beginning of the semester. The work must be submitted in writing and checked and recognized by the teacher. The exam is a written test, the student can obtain up to 100 points from this test. Evaluation of the test result is given by the ECTS grading scale.

Aims

The objective of the subject is to acquire the knowledge of technical system reliability.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The student attendance is checked in tutorials (presence and activity). The 100% participation in tutorials is required, and in case of absence, the student will be obliged to compensate, the alternative attendance will be specified by the lecturer.
