Aeronautical On-Board Instruments

FSI-DLL Acad. year: 2019/2020 Summer semester

The course is concerned with flight and gyroscopic instruments, selected navigation instruments, power plant and system monitoring instruments, automatic flight control system, warning and annunciating system, displays system, flight management system and recording equipment (flight data recorder and cockpit recorder). The curriculum of the course is elaborated on the base of JAR-FCL for ATPL.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students will acquire the knowledge and skills of theoretical area, which are necessary for professional pilots in commercial air transport .

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of theory aut. control – characteristics and transfer functions of elementary factors, servo-mechanism.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The course-unit credit requirements: the attendance at lectures and exercises is compulsory (80% at the minimum). The examination is of oral form.

Aims

The course objective is to make students familiar with the theory of flight board instruments. Student will learn how to use the theoretical knowledge about flight board instruments in practice. Students will be prepared for ATPL (A) exam at CAA.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

The attendance at lectures and exercises is compulsory (80% at the minimum), and it is checked and recorded. The absence (in justifiable cases) can be compensated by personal consultation with the lecturer and elaboration of individually assigned topics and exercises. Individual tasks must be finished and handed in within the course-unit credit week at the latest.

2. Air data instruments – altimeter, air speed indicator, Machmeter, vertical speed indicator.
3. Gyro – theory, types, directional gyro, turn and back indicator, vertical gyro/artificial horizon
4. Gyro stabilized platform, accelerometer.
5. Magnetic and gyro-induction compass.
6. Inertial navigation system.
7. Flight and navigation display system.
8. Flight management system.
9. Automatic flight control system.
10. Power plant and system monitoring instruments.
11. Engine and on-board equipment display system.
12. Warning and annunciation system.
13. Recording equipment (flight data recorder cockpit voice recorder).
