Tool Jigs and Fixtures for Machining

FSI-HUP-K Acad. year: 2019/2020 Summer semester

The course is focused on the fundamentals of designing of cutting tools, jigs and fixtures for machining. It describes individual projection systems for tool design, as well as procedures applied for designing of operational fixtures in compliance with the proposed technology. The students will acquaint with individual types of cutting materials and their use for designing of tools.

Language of instruction

Czech

Number of ECTS credits

7

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The use of 2D/3D CAD programmes for designing of tools and fixtures for machining.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of construction with CAD applications, producing of technical drawings, knowledge of technical materials and their heat treatment, secondary school mathematics, basic knowledge of machining technology and methods of machining. Generating of technological processes.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit requirements:
Participation in the exercises.
Include delivery of two programmes: designing a dimensional tool and fixture for the given component with the use of CAD application.
The examination:
Consists of a written (test or written exam) and oral part.
The teacher may in justified cases set a special condition.

Aims

The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the fundamentals of designing the basic cutting tools and fixtures for machining. They will learn and manage designing tools in basic projection systems with the use of computer technology. Designing of operational fixtures in compliance with the proposed technology. They will get acquainted with individual types of cutting materials and their use for designing of tools in the given machining technology.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Participation in the exercises 100%, excused absence max. 10%. If the student exceeds the limit of absences, the director of the institute may permit individual compensatory assignments. Missed lessons may be in well-founded cases compensated in the given week with other groups.
