Course detail
Jigs and Tools
FSI-FPN Acad. year: 2020/2021 Summer semester
The course deals the following topics: Tools for sheet metal forming – cutting, bending, deep drawing tools, tools for spinning. It describes the tools, design-technological parameters. Also dealt with is the way of tool design for solid forming – coining, extrusion, forging. The course focuses also on the rules for designing of tools as well as materials for forming tools.
It acquaints also with tools for machining of rotary and common surfaces, tools for holes, for threads. Jigs, their design for various machining technologies are discussedn as well as design-technological parameters of machining tools.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
Thorough knowledge of design of tools for cold and hot metal forming, for tools and equipment for machining. The basic knowledge of design of tools and jigs.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of technology of machining and forming. Knowledge of engineering drawing, rules for fitting, kinds of machining materials. Knowledge of basic stress analysis and technological steps.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Course-unit credit requirements:
Participation in the exercises.
include delivery of two programmes: designing a dimensional tool and fixture for the given component with the use of CAD application.
The examination: consists of a written (test or written exam) and oral part.
The teacher may in justified cases set a special condition.
Aims
The aim is to make students familiar with the fundamentals of design of tools for cold and hot metal forming and tools for machining. They will master the rules for designing and material of tools for both technologies.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Attendance at all exercises is necessary . Missed lessons may be compensated for via a make-up tasks by arrangement with the teacher.
Recommended optional programme components
CAD and CAM applications.
