Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps

The course deals with the construction of the modern refrigeration systems and heat pumps. It discusses the particular design of the individual components, their location in real devices and their influence on system behavior. It also addresses legislation, operation and maintenance of refrigeration systems and heat pumps, including safe handling of refrigerants.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course will provide students with the knowledge and skills associated with the operation and maintenance of refrigeration systems and heat pumps. The course provides students with a good background for passing the certification exam according to Commission Regulation (EC) 303/2008.

Prerequisites

Physics, basics of electrical engineering, works with PC

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through exercises which are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Credit is awarded for active participation in exercises and laboratory measurements.

Aims

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with current trends in the design of refrigeration systems and heat pumps, the requirements for their operation and maintenance.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Participation in the exercises is voluntary.
