Practical Materials Engineering on Industrial Artefacts

FSI-0MI Acad. year: 2020/2021 Winter semester

The seminar offers an insight in practical materials engineering. By hands-on experience, the students learn how to apply basic principles of material science on the results they can see on samples prepared by classical materials engineering approaches.

Language of instruction

Czech

Number of ECTS credits

2

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Practical experience with material engineering analysis methods.

Prerequisites

Knowledge of material science, mathematics, chemistry and physics on the first year level is expected.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The results will be publicly presented. Based on the presentation , credits are awarded.

Aims

The objective is to introduce second year students to practical use of materials engineering methods. Students have hands on experience with laboratory equipment and can find the principles that are lectured in theory having real effect.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Since this is an electorial course, the activities in this course are assessed on the basis of the student's own results obtained in the lab, and the quality of the final presentation.
