Course detail

Theory of Machining

FSI-HTO Acad. year: 2020/2021 Summer semester

The course familiarises students with chip removing processes including side effects of deformation processes. The processes of individual types of machining are analyzed from the viewpoint of the mutual action of the cutting tool and the workpiece in order to clarify the relations between the cutting process and economic indicators. Acquired theoretical knowledge can be applied to optimize the cutting process.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The subject familiarises students with the theory of deformation processes while cutting technical materials with various cutting tools. Also dealt with is their experimental evaluation.

Prerequisites

Basics of machining

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended the practicals and worked out individual assignments. Exam has a written and an oral part.

Aims

The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge from chip forming processes, evaluation of cutting process experiments and individual relations of cutting processes. In the area of cutting tools students will be made familiar with the designation of cutting planes and cutting angles of one- and multi-edge tools and with their graphical and analytic relations.
