Course detail

Reliability of Structures

FSI-RST-A Acad. year: 2021/2022 Summer semester

The aims of the tutorial are the active methods of system reliability design, analysis and testing, operational availability performance, and analysis of the influencing factors. The main emphasis is put on reliability performance, maintainability performance and maintenance support performance. The economic aspects of reliability are taken into account too, especially the economic optimisation of reliability factors is stressed in the course. Detailed explanation system reliability theory, basic statistical concepts, methods of reliability analysis, reliability allocation, introduction to reparable systems, reliability information systems, interference theory and methods of reliability testing are treated in lectures. Failure reporting, analysis and corrective action systems and their usefulness for reliability are explained.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The students will acquire modern computational and analytical methods for active creation and verification dependabilitity of products in all periods their lifetime. They will be able operate with international standards (EU standards) which styles liability suppliers of products and services to ensure quality, reliability and safety.

Prerequisites

Mathematical statistics and probability

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Seminar credits are granted under the condition of: active presence in the seminars, good elaborated homeworks, solution of additional tasks in case of longer excusable absence. Seminar tutor will specify concrete form of these conditions in the first week of semester.
Classified accreditation is in the written form; consists theoretical questions a problems for solution.

Aims

Acquaint the students with recent methods for active security of dependability of machines and equipments and their systems in all periods their technical lifetime. From practical point of view it handles about explanation elementary dependability theory and methods of active creation dependability of products as one of the crucial subattribute of their quality.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Attendence is required. One absence can be compensated by elaboration of substitute tasks. Longer absence is compensated by special tasks according to instructions of the tutor.
Seminar credits are granted under the condition of active presence in the seminars, good results of seminar tests of basic knowledge, solution of additional tasks in case of longer excusable absence. Seminar tutor will specify concrete form of these conditions in the first week of semester.
