Course detail

Optical Design

FSI-TCS Acad. year: 2021/2022 Summer semester

CAD special will make students familiar with the analysis of the optical system using computers. The main objective of the course is to work with software for optical design ZEMAX. Centred optical systems made of spherical surfaces, three dimensional optical systems, systems with aspheric surfaces, zoom systems, mirrors, apertures and discs are analysed. A Part of the analysis is to identify aberrations and their correction using optimization abilities of ZEMAX.

Language of instruction

Number of ECTS credits

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Student will be capable to design and optimize optical systems using program ZEMAX (and other programs because their basic properties are the same).

Prerequisites

Basics of geometric optics

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on practical topics presented in lectures.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Students design: magnifying glass, objective, eyepiece and microscope and correct aberrations. A short report will be classified.

Aims

Design and analysis of optical systems using computer program ZEMAX.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Only final report is controlled. Missed lessons cannot be compensated for.
