Course detail

Elastohydrodynamics

FSI-9EHD Acad. year: 2021/2022 Both semester

The overall aim of this course is to provide students with a general and useful introduction to the main concepts and principles of elastohydrodynamic (EHD) lubrication. It is the mechanism of lubrication that describes the separation by a lubricant film between two elastic non conforming machine elements loaded against each other, and in relative motion. The course covers introduction to EHD lubrication, the fundamentals required in understanding EHD lubrication and in-depth study of selected topics related to EHD lubrication.

Language of instruction

Czech

Learning outcomes of the course unit

– Ability to solve problems of contacts and lubrication.
- Ability to design experiment and parameters of lubricated contacts.
- Ability to select and conduct appropriate tribological test.
- Ability to apply fundamental possibilities of theoretical calculations.

Prerequisites

General courses on mechanics, machine design, material sciences and hydromechanics.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Lectures, seminars, self-study.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The evaluation of students is based on individual work of selected theme related to the field of contact problems, elastohydrodynamic lubrication, fluid film friction or wear. The work includes theoretical description, calculations and may include own experimental results.

Aims

Students will be able to use theoretical fundamentals of elastohydrodynamic lubrication regime for independent research and development work. Gained knowledge will enable to understand, describe and interpret own observations of lubrication problems.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Teaching has a form of consultation and discussion on a given theme at arranged times.
