Technology and Safety of Work with Earth Moving Machines

FSI-QBS Acad. year: 2021/2022 Winter semester

The course is focused on the technology of working with earthmoving machinery and the safety regulations applicable to their work. The course deals with the choice of deployment of individual earthmoving machinery according to the type and extent of earthmoving work, site survey, securing excavation work, working conditions of earthmoving machinery, machine operator duties, prohibited handling of machines, transport of machinery on public roads, etc. This course is obligatory for the students applying for the earthwork machines driving license.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The graduation of this course is obligatory for all persons interested in attaining driving licence for the earthwork machines. Students will also gain the knowledge that a manager must have in the management of work teams performing earthworks. It is about the ability to organize the use of earthmoving machinery according to the technological work, to ensure work safety and also the ability to educate other workers in these areas.

Prerequisites

Students are required to have basic knowledge of a physics, machine parts and their mechanism and physics of the materials.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Exercises are focused on the practical topics presented in the lectures. The course includes excursions and internships in companies that manufacture, service or operate equipment from the thematic area of education.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The verification of the knowledge acquired in the course: Written test.

Aims

The aim of the course is to get acquainted with the system technologies of operation of earth-moving machinery and safety regulations for their operation. Students will be introduced with the duties and responsibilities of the machine operators, the duties and responsibilities of the supervisors (zone managers, leading groups) mainly from aspect of the making safe working environment and prevent injuries and breakdowns during controlling the earthwork machines.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

To get a graded course-unit credit students must attend seminars and successful completion of the test.
