Course detail
Processes, Jigs and Tools in Machining Technology
FSI-HNP Acad. year: 2021/2022 Summer semester
Technological preparation of production as an integral component of the technological process of machining. The methodology of design of the production procedures. Classification and measurement of time consumption in engineering technological process. The second part of course is focused on the fundamentals of designing of cutting tools, jigs and fixtures for machining. It describes individual projection systems for tool design, as well as procedures applied for designing of operational fixtures in compliance with the proposed technology. The students will acquaint with individual types of cutting materials and their use for designing of tools.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
The students will learn production procedures of typical engineering components in terms of individual stages of the production procedure.
The students will obtain basic knowledge necessary for designing of machining tools in basic technologies (design of the principle, choice of cutting material). When designing the fixtures, the student will obtain basic knowledge for designing a principle for alignment, clamping of the fixture for machining technology. Computer technology will be used for the solution of the problems.
Prerequisites
Ability to work with technical drawings and personal computer. Secondary school mathematics. Basic knowledge of heat, chemical and surface layer material treatment. Basic knowledge of scaling in technological processes.
Construction with PC, producing of technical drawings, knowledge of technical materials and their heat treatments, secondary school mathematics, basic knowledge of machining technology and methods of machining technology. Generating of technological processes.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Teaching methods depend on the type of course unit as specified in the article 7 of BUT Rules for Studies and Examinations.
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
1. Active participation in the exercises, delivery of constructional technological designs for the given technological processes, tools and fixtures with the use of computer technology.
2. Course-unit credit
3. Written examination according to the Rules for Studies and Examinations, possibly followed by an oral examination.
Aims
The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the methodology of the technological planning of the production of engineering components, designing of the production procedure and analysis of respective relations in the technology of the engineering components production.
The aim of the second half of course is to familiarise students with the basic principles of designing and construction of communal and up-to-date tools and fixtures for individual basic technologies of machining, with the use of a computer technology.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Participation in the exercises 100%, excused absence max. 10%. If the student exceeds the limit of absences, the director of the institute may permit individual compensatory assignments. Missed lessons may be in well-founded cases compensated in the given week with other groups.
