Course detail

Production Technology II

FSI-3VT-K Acad. year: 2021/2022 Winter semester

The course provides students with basic theoretical knowledge in the area of machining and with its application in practicals. Practicals are performed in machine tool and manual workplaces. Students work on a lathe, milling machine, drilling machine and at a locksmith bench under supervision of a tutor. The knowledge acquired is a precondition for successful completion of further courses within the study of manufacturing technology.

Learning outcomes of the course unit

The course familiarises students with general definitions in machining, measuring and marking of components, selection of cutting conditions for machining and classification of machined materials. Students will learn about cutting tools and their materials and principles of machining processes selection.

Prerequisites

Students are expected to have the knowledge acquired at secondary school, especially in the branch of physic.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through practical laboratory work.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

Final assessment of the course is by graded course-unit credit. It is awarded on the following conditions: participation in exercises, fulfilling the assignments, and submitting written reports of machining technology and basic calculations in machining. The graded course-unit credit reflects the mark given for accuracy and appearance of products worked in practical exercises, as well as the evaluation given by the workplace of Institute of Materials Science Engineering too.

Aims

The goal of the course is to provide students with basic theoretical knowledge in the area of production technology and work principles in selected basic engineering professions.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Obligatory attendance in the lessons. An absence can be compensated for by attending a seminar with another group, or by elaboration of substitute tasks. A longer absence may be compensated for via special tasks by the agreement with the teacher.
