Theory of Internal Combustion Engines

FSI-QTS Acad. year: 2022/2023 Winter semester

The course introduces students to the theory of internal combustion engines with a focus on thermodynamics of working cycles, combustion and heat transfer.

Language of instruction

Czech

Number of ECTS credits

6

Learning outcomes of the course unit

Students learn individual concepts from the theory of internal combustion engines, get acquainted with basic systems of internal combustion engines, determination of their characteristic dimensions and gain knowledge of computational models of these systems.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites and co-requisites The student must have knowledge corresponding to subjects of theoretical basis of bachelor study in the field of engineering education, especially thermomechanics.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.

Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes

The credit is conditional on active participation in the exercises, proper preparation of the elaborations and fulfilling the conditions of any control tests. The exam verifies the knowledge acquired in lectures and exercises, is written, including a test in eLearning, and may have an oral part verifying knowledge after the written part.

Aims

To provide knowledge for practical and theoretical, experimental and scientific activities in the field of internal combustion engines.

Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences

Classes are compulsory, attendance is checked by the teacher. The form of substitution of lessons missed for serious reasons and in exceptional cases is solved individually with the course supervisor.
