Course detail
Transformation Technologies of Solid Fuels
FSI-9TPA Acad. year: 2022/2023 Both semester
At the beginning of the course the students are acquainted with the basic principles of scientific work, the method will be applied further in creating the outputs of the subject. Another aim is to get acquainted with the basic types of fuels available and their properties with regard to their possible use. The most extensive part of the course is devoted to individual technologies of thermochemical, biochemical and mechanical conversion of solid fuels. Students will understand basic conversion mechanisms, advantages and limitations of individual methods.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
Posluchači získají pokročilé znalosti o procesech transformace tuhých paliv (uhlí, biomasa, odpady) na jiný typ paliv. Dále si studenti osvojí základy vědecké práce.
Prerequisites
Energy sources and transformation, kinetics of chemical reactions.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Students will be acquainted with the basics of scientific work, they will apply the acquired knowledge in the assigned tasks. The issue of fuel transformation will be specified according to the focus of the student. The course will include a paper and prezentation on the topic of biomass or waste conversion.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
The condition of passing the subject is a short professional work and the examination. The exam is oral.
Aims
The aim is to introduce students to the problems of the possible uses and modifications of solid fuels and provide them with basic and advanced knowledge in the field of thermochemical, biochemical and mechanical transformations fuels. Another objective of the course is to acquire the basics of scientific activity in the field.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Seminars are optional. The activity on the assigned tasks is decisive.
