Inteligent Buildings
FSI-IIB Acad. year: 2022/2023 Summer semester
The course focuses on the issues of measurement, automation and control in buildings, ventilation and air conditioning. Attention is paid to individual parts of the control circuit. Students are acquainted with sensors and measuring technology, controllers and actuators used to regulate temperature, humidity, heating, ventilation and air conditioning of buildings. The course is focused on technology from simple controllers to modern integrated building automation systems.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
A general overview of methods, principles and tools for advanced automation and integration of intelligent building systems.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge from physics and mathematics, introduction from theory automatic control, basic knowledge of problems of heating and ventilation in buildings
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Unit credit: participation in laboratory exercises and presentation of work results. Exam: written test and oral exam of the all topisc in the subject.
Aims
Students will gain an overview of methods and tools for measuring, automation and control of basic parameters in environmental engineering. Furthermore, the practical application of measurement and data processing, including evaluation in computer software.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Attendance in laboratory exercises is monitored . An absence is compensated by solving individual assignments.

- Introduction, the importance of automation, basic concepts
- Fundamentals of integrated building automation systems, intelligent building, IoT
- Measuring techniques, measurement of basic parameters in environmental engineering
- Signal processing, filtering and data evaluation
- Control circuit, feedback, system architecture, automation
- Types of regulation and types of regulators (PID, FUZZY, MPC)
- Regulation in MATLAB environment
- Expert systems and neural networks
- Central unit, types of communication protocols, smart appliances and energy saving
- Examples of implementation of intelligent building systems
