Achiving knowledges of the term management. Core of the topic is structuralization of management according to the functions. Detailed explanation of individual functions. Planning, organisation, leadership and control.

Knowledge of the fundamentals of business economy, business functions, its management and results.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Completion of the subject:

In order to be awarded credit, active participation in the exercises during the presentation and subsequent discussion of the seminar papers is required (among other things). During the semester, individual activities in the exercises are evaluated using a point system, which is updated for each semester according to the  types of tasks.

A student must obtain at least 60% of points to be awarded credit.

Students can earn points for:
• semester work
• presentation of semester work
• processing questions from case studies
• questionnaire processing – voluntary activity (beyond the point evaluation).

Exam requirements: knowledge of the lectured material and its practical application.

The form of the exam is written, the examiner decides on the oral exam on the basis of a tie in the written exam.

The exam is classified according to the ECTS scale, in order to successfully pass it, you need to get at least 50% points. To the overall evaluation of the subject takes into account the evaluation of the work during the entire semester.

Completion of the course for students with ISP:
1) preparation and submission of the semester project
2) examination 

Completion of the course in the event of the announcement of the distance form:

processing and submission of semester work
presentation of semester work
processing questions from case studies
processing of the questionnaire – voluntary activity (beyond the scope of point evaluation) exam

 
Checking the results of the semester work, the results of solving case studies, the results of processing presentation topics, checking the results of the knowledge test.
In case of excused absence from the exercise, the teacher may, in justified cases, set an alternative condition, usually the elaboration of a partial written assignment.

Aims

The objective of the course is to provide students with knowledge of fundamentals of management, its terms, content, structuralization and methods.
Students will have a clear idea of modern approaches in management and its functions of planning, organising, leadership and control.

Syllabus

Gaining knowledge about the concept of management and its various interpretations. The core of the subject is familiarization with the individual functions of management, which they are arranged in the usual structure: planning, organizing, leadership and control. A detailed explanation is given to the individual functions. Attention is further focused on the interpretation of important approaches applied in the current practice of organizations, such as e.g. systematic approach, process approach, management change and risk management.
1. Management, its meaning, definitions of management used by the main representatives.
2. Some current approaches to management analysis – management science, managerial roles, 7S, contingency approach, contingency variables, The Deming cycle.

3. Functions in management – planning, Henri Fayol, view of management in terms of functions, planning – definition, hierarchy of plans, priority planning, types of plans.

4. Planning Procedure – Koontz, management by objectives, practice of setting objectives, conflicts between objectives, areas for determining objectives.

5. Organization, definition, superior and subordinate relations, delegation of authority, organizational structure.

6. Organizing – rules of bureaucratic administration, organizational dimensions, division of labor, scope of management, principles of organizing.

7. Leadership, definition, management vs. management, managerial roles, managerial personality, characteristics, skills.

8. Leadership – European standard of managerial competences, stimulation and motivation.

9. Controlling, the importance of control as a managerial function, steps of the control process – measurement, comparison, measures, types of control – preliminary, concurrent, subsequent.

10. Decision-making, types of problems, programmed and non-programmed decisions, decision-making process, evaluation of alternatives, approaches to decision-making, decision making styles.

11. Process approach, definition, management system, principles of quality-oriented management.

12. Process approach – process model, essentials of process management, process measurement, metrics – area of implementation and customer processes.

13. Change management, situation for implementing change, awareness of urgency, coalition for change, transformational vision and its communication, delegation, use results.
