German for Specific Purposes II

The course requires a very good knowledge of general language at least at B2 level. The course is focused on characteristic features of professional communication. It provides students with the relevant specialised language and professional communication skills they will need in the workplace.

Entry knowledge

The minimum entry requirement is the knowledge of German corresponding to B2 level.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended the seminars actively, worked out assigned tasks and passed a credit test. 60% points at the credit test as minimum.

The examination at level B2+/C1 CEFR consists of a written and an oral part. The written part tests global and detailed listening and reading comprehension, grammar and vocabulary of the general language and of German for Specific Purposes and written expression.
The oral part is a dialogue on professional topics of conversation.

Attendance at seminars is compulsory and is systematically checked by the teacher. Students are allowed to miss two seminars. Regular attendance and active participation in classes are necessary conditions for taking the examination.

Aims

The aim of the course is to reinforce individual abilities of students to express themselves in German. The previously gained knowledge of grammar and vocabulary will be revised and systematically expanded in real contexts.


After passing this course students should be able to communicate in German independently, at B2+/C1 level. The knowledge and skills gained should contribute to more fluent speaking and communication in academic as well as professional environments.
