Laboratory Experiments on Chemistry

FSI-TCH Acad. year: 2024/2025 Summer semester

Laboratory code and safety measures, legislation. Laboratory notes, laboratory equipment. Basic laboratory work – weighing, work with glass, measuring volumes of liquids, preparation and dilution of the solutions. Heating, annealing, cooling, dehydrating, crystallization, filtration, decantation, extraction. Determination of variables – refracting index, melting point, density, pH. Simple tasks – mixture division, reduction of noble metal from the solution, pyrophoric lead.

Language of instruction

Number of ECTS credits

4

Entry knowledge

Knowledge of secondary school chemistry and basic mathematics.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The laboratory notebook (control of preparation), report sheets, course-unit credit test.

The presence of students at practice is obligatory and is monitored by a tutor. The way how to compensate missed practice lessons will be decided by a tutor depending on the range and content of the missed lessons.

Aims

The goal is to provide students with an overview of basic safety rules work in the chemical laboratory, to acquaint students with basic tasks, teach students to work independently in a chemical laboratory with hazardous substances.
Obtaining skills and a practical knowledge of basic operations that are used in the chemical laboratory.
