Design Project Concept

FSI-YE1 Acad. year: 2024/2025 Winter semester

The course is designed to explore new, non-traditional product solutions with the goal of creating an original and well thought-out design. The course focuses on the analytical and conceptual part of the design process and emphasizes the creation of main ideas. The thematic content of the course is a conceptual solution of the design aspect of the product with a vision for the future, which will be implemented using design methods. The resulting design will take into account the current common technologies, as well as less common technologies with potential for the future. The output of the assignment is a drawing documentation, presentation and conceptual model of the proposed solution in an appropriate scale.

Language of instruction

Number of ECTS credits

10

Entry knowledge

Ability to solve the design of simple industrial products and knowledge of sketching techniques. Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of spatial creation, artistic composition and implementation of three-dimensional models.
Knowledge of modeling software (e.g. Rhinoceros, 3ds Max) and graphics software (e.g. Adobe).

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Requirements for obtaining credit:
Active participation in exercises.
Submission of a completely developed project in digital (poster, presentation, visualization) and physical form (poster, conceptual model) within the set deadlines.
Requirements for passing the exam:
Successful defense of the project solution, in which the design of the concept and the level of presentation of the achieved results are evaluated.
The resulting classification is determined according to the ECTS scale. In total, up to 100 points can be obtained.
Attendance is mandatory and controlled by the teacher, a maximum of two excused absences per semester are allowed. In case of long-term absence, compensation for missed classes is in the competence of the subject guarantor.

Aims

Students will focus on design methods in the early stages of the design process, leading to the creation of thoughtful design concepts. Students will then be able to objectively select the most appropriate solution from the concepts created, which will become the main idea of the final design. Emphasis on this stage of the design process will create a solid foundation for the concept itself.
Ability to apply modern design methods to the design of the final solution.
Ability to identify significant problems and propose solutions.
Ability to critically evaluate a conceptual solution.
Ability to work independently or in a team.
Ability to present the achieved results in the form of their presentation.
