Proseminar in Physics III

FSI-0FO Acad. year: 2024/2025 Winter semester

Proseminar in physics III complements the lecture General physics III given within the frame of the speciality Physical engineering. Students taking this seminar can practise and acquire basic knowledge of oscillations and waves in suitable form to be able to solve some physical- and technical problems. These abilities are necessary to understand fundamentals of many technical branches.
Oscillations. Kinematics, dynamics, energy. Dumped oscillator. Forced oscillations and resonance. Anharmonic oscillations.
Waves. Wave equation. Superposition and interference. Sound- and electromagnetic waves. Optics.

Integral and differential calculus. Newton’s laws. Power and energy in mechanics.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Students are evaluated on the basis of discussion on topics explained during the course.
For passing out the Proseminar in Physics III the attendance at the courses is obligatory. In the case of excused absence an individual way of compensation can be arranged.

Aims

Proseminar in physics III is drawn up to support students’ active approach their study content. Discussed topics are influenced especially by students. The main aim is to actively follow the commentary by means of the intensive collaboration between the teacher and the student.
Knowledge of definitions, laws and their validity conditions in the range of the syllabus. The emphasis is laid on the encouragement of abilities to solve physical and technical problems by virtue of general information obtained from the lecture General physics III.
