English Skills for Workplace Communication

FSI-0SE Acad. year: 2024/2025 Summer semester

The course is intended to develop the English language skills to communicate confidently in an international workplace. The focus is on spoken language, practising communication skills and developing the ability to pass the recruitment process, present ideas and negotiate in an international workplace.

Entry knowledge

The minimum entry requirement is the English knowledge corresponding to B1 level.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Course-unit credit is awarded on condition of having attended the seminars actively and worked out assigned tasks. The overal evaluation reflects students' projects.
Attendance at seminars is compulsory and is systematically checked by the teacher. Students are allowed to miss two seminars. In well-founded cases, extra absences can be made up for after consulting the situation with the teacher. Attendance and active participation in classes are necessary conditions for taking an examination.

Aims

The course is aimed at delevoping business communication skills students will need in their future careers at B2 level.


A student who successfully passes the 0SE course can contribute effectively to meetings and discussions in various situations and use language skills needed for successful communication in the workplace. Students will be able to interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity, give a prepared presentation, negotiate and chair meetings. The skills will help students when applying for new jobs, or developing their future career. They will also be useful for various study-related situations where the English language is required.
