Course detail

Industrial Metrology

FSI-DPM Acad. year: 2025/2026 Winter semester

The Industrial Metrology course introduces students to the basic purpose of measuring instruments and their application. Attention is given to the metrological assurance of production processes. Emphasis is placed on the metrology of size, distance, geometric tolerances and texture of functional surfaces. Students will also master the basic methods of conformance verification in the ISO GPS system.

Language of instruction

Czech

Number of ECTS credits

5

Entry knowledge

Knowledge of engineering technologies. Basic knowledge on structure and properties of materials. Principles and SI units for geometrical quantities metrology (physics).

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Conditions for credit: Attendance in class, correct preparation of laboratory reports and active participation in class.
Examination: The examination tests the knowledge of basic measurement and evaluation methods, especially their application to practical examples. The examination will be written (and oral) and graded at ECTS level.
Attendance of lectures is recommended. Laboratory sessions are compulsory. Missed laboratory classes can be made up in another study group by arrangement with the teacher of that group or, if excused, again at the end of the semester in make-up laboratory classes.

Aims

The aim of the Industrial Metrology course is to introduce students to basic measurement methods that can be creatively applied to individual technologies. Particular attention is paid to practical activities, the sensitivity of each method in relation to its application in quality management and the application of ISO GPS standards in industrial practice.
The Industrial Metrology course enables students to gain knowledge of some of the basic measurement methods that can be applied to specific technologies. Students will learn how to solve and carry out practical applications of metrology in operational settings.
