Course detail
Technological Projects and Materials Handling
FSI-ETM Acad. year: 2025/2026 Winter semester
The content of Technological projects and materials handling aims at introducing students to the basics of technological design and enables them to gain insight into independent processing of pre-project analysis and precise technological layout of workshop as well as basic manufacturing operations, including material handling. The course mainly deals with the following topics: capacity calculations, fundamental design of manufacturing plant, detailed layout of workshops and workplaces, assembly lines and IPS and utilizes ergonomy in its technological design. The main objectives of the field relating to material handling is on the pre-project preparation, material handling devices, storage design and economic evaluation of project. Substantial part of the subject is also given to the use of computers and modern software for the purpose of company design, storages and their material handling processes. Students will also become familiar with basic principles of project management (application conditions, methods, criteria for success of the project etc.).

Entry knowledge
Basic knowledge in the field of engineering technology (forming technology, machining, foundry, welding and non-conventional technology) and knowledge of used machines and technological devices, including constructions. When processing lectures and exercises, it is also necessary to master mathematical principles, mathematical optimization, physics of material movement and logistics.
Rules for evaluation and completion of the course
Conditions for granting credit: Participation in exercises, processing of all capacity calculation protocols, i.e. general, foundry, boiler room (bridge and welding room), forge and press room, including possible use of computer technology (Excel, MathCAD, etc.). Comprehensive project solutions for workshops and warehouses according to individual specifications, fully use computer technology for own design, including drawing software to support design (AutoCAD, Inventor, etc.). The following are evaluated: Correctness of calculations, originality of solutions, technical processing and student activity in the exercises.Exam: The exam tests knowledge of theory, calculations, basic knowledge of the rules and principles of technological design and material handling design. The exam is written (1 simple example and 4 rounds of questions from the lectures) and oral. During the oral exam, the student receives 2-3 additional questions. When determining the final assessment, the level of the project processed in the exercise is taken into account. The following are evaluated: Correctness of calculations, originality of solutions, technical processing and student activity in the exercises. It is evaluated with the ECTS classification level.Attendance at exercises is regularly checked and participation in classes is recorded. In case of non-participation, it is possible to replace the missed lesson with another study group in the same teaching week. In the event that the replacement is not possible, the student prepares a replacement assignment and calculation exercise, or performs a replacement consultation according to the agreement with the teacher Conditions for granting credit: Participation in exercises, processing of capacity calculations and a complex project of the workshop and warehouses according to the individual assignment with maximum use of all computer programs to support design.
Aims
The aim of the subject "Technological projects and material handling" is to familiarize students with the basics of technological design and design of handling processes so that students are able to independently read technological drawings, compile a plant master plan, process a workshop, warehouse and operation project, including inter-object, intra-object and inter-operational manipulation with the material.
The course will enable students to gain knowledge about the theoretical foundations of design, pre-project analyses, procedures and methods used in project practice, handling tools used in inter-object, intra-object and inter-operation material handling. By processing the project of the workshop, warehouse, including handling, they will acquire the necessary skills.
