Course detail
Tool Jigs and Fixtures for Machining
FSI-HUP Acad. year: 2025/2026 Summer semester
The primary objective of this course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of designing and functioning of cutting tools and fixtures in machining, including the selection and utilization of tool materials. Various imaging systems are described for constructing cutting and forming devices and procedures for designing operational fixtures that comply with proposed technology. Concurrently, individual tool materials and their applications within construction of machinery are evaluated. To familiarize oneself with the design, students engage in an individual project to create a basic fixture and tool for machining using modern CAD applications.

Aims
The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the fundamentals of designing the basic cutting tools and fixtures for machining. They will learn and manage designing tools in basic projection systems with the use of computer technology. Designing of operational fixtures in compliance with the proposed technology. They will get acquainted with individual types of cutting materials and their use for designing of tools in the given machining technology.
The use of 2D/3D CAD programmes for designing of tools and fixtures for machining.
Study aids
Theses from the lectures. Script Tools and fixtures for machining. Commercial catalogs of tools and parts of fixtures.
