Process Engineering

Original title in Czech: Procesní inženýrstvíFSIAbbreviation: M-PRIAcad. year: 2019/2020

Programme: Mechanical Engineering

Length of Study: 2 years

Accredited from: 1.9.2004Accredited until: 31.12.2020

Profile

The study of process engineering is a starting point for an engineer, concerned with development of processes, their control and design, as well as equipment design.

Graduates may find jobs in the following industrial areas:

  • food industry
  • power generation
  • oil and gas processing industry
  • chemical and pharmaceutical industry
  • engineering for environmental protection

Thanks to existing accreditation of the study branch, graduates may acquire title EUR ING – euroengineer. By delivering this title, FEANI (European Federation of National Engineering Associations) acknowledges basically that its holder has absolved such a course at a technical university that provides education at a comparable European level.

Key learning outcomes

Process engineering is a very broad field necessary for various industries, municipal sphere and conceptual power industry. It concerns process development, its optimum conduct, effective design and implementation. Students enroll for “Process Engineering” in the first year of the second grade of their master’s studies where they acquire theoretical background necessary for successful mastering of basic process engineering disciplines. Students employ their theoretical knowledge in the final year where they focus on subjects of wide scope such as implementation of investment plans, project management, design and control of processes, etc. Studies include methods of reduction and/or optimization of energy consumption with minimum emission production, risk assessment of complicated process equipment, and waste treatment.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

It is not an overstatement to say that graduates from process engineering have exceptional and perspective prospects for their future professional careers. This is a consequence of widely applicable knowledge which they have acquired throughout the study of process engineering. Such an approach to teaching assuring great flexibility of the graduated engineers is very useful if not necessary, as it enables to react to any changes (even those that are hard to foresee) in the industrial production, business and so on.
GRADUATES MAY FIND JOBS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS

  • power industry
  • food industry
  • oil and gas processing industry
  • environmental units and operations, environmental protection (waste water treatment plants, thermal and non-thermal waste treatment, units for treatment of emissions from industrial and power generation sources, etc.)
Unique career prospects of process engineering graduates may be assigned to broad application sphere of knowledge in various types of industry. This includes design, implementation, construction, reconstruction and modernization, creation of support software tools, project and production management, optimization, consultancy, business activities, representation and jobs in foreign companies, etc. Graduates are highly wanted by Czech, foreign and international companies.
One of main assets of Process engineering is a systematic care for gifted students. Institute provides professional supervision over students’ bachelor’s thesis, diploma’s thesis and students’ functioning as postdocs. Supervision is done by college teachers, researchers (who perform research within highly strategic research projects with great results) and professionals from industrial sphere.
