Branch Details
Materials Engineering
Original title in Czech: Materiálové inženýrstvíFSIAbbreviation: B-MTIAcad. year: 2023/2024
Programme: Applied Sciences in Engineering
Length of Study: 3 years
Accredited from: 1.9.2003Accredited until: 31.12.2024
Profile
The goal of the branch „Materials engineering“ in bachelor‘s programme is to educate specialists cognizant of current experimental techniques in the field. This means that the graduate will be capable to operate the laboratory equipment in the field of metallography (light and electron microscope), mechanical testing, non-destructive and physical testing (physical and chemical analyses, differential thermal analysis and dilatometry).
The graduates of the bachelor’s study programme can plan and perform the heat and mechanical treatment of metallic as well as non-metallic materials. They are able to measure the relations between the microstructure of the material and its exploitation. They are also able to asses the extent of degradation of a structural part and to evaluate its remaining lifetime or its boundary state.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples
On completing bachelor studies in materials engineering the graduate will have obtained an integral lower-degree university education with orientation towards metallic and non-metallic materials, their technology, structure, properties and application.
In practice, the bachelor will be able to solve independently materials problems connected with the selection and application of materials under defined behaviour conditions in engineering, metallurgy, power engineering, transport, chemical, and electrical industries.
The graduates will be in a position to participate in solutions to both current and special materials problems involving proposals and innovation of materials for structures and industrial facilities.
The graduates will be equipped to work in materials testing shops and analytical laboratories in industrial plants and research institutes, and also in teams specializing in complex solutions to problems of innovating structures and facilities.
On completing their studies, bachelors can continue in the follow-up master degree studies in materials engineering or in related fields of study at faculties of technical orientation.
