The Vehicle Dynamics Research Group is focused on research and application of results in the field of vehicle handling. The group's activities include mathematical modelling and simulation calculations of vehicle dynamics, driving tests, driving manoeuvre measurements and data analysis, laboratory measurements of vehicle parameters. The focus of the research is on the development of methods and tools to support vehicle design, both at the stage when a prototype is not yet built and at the stage when the vehicle's handling characteristics and the behaviour of ADAS and autonomous driving support systems are being fine-tuned through test drives. It is a characteristic of today that individual tools are only used in one development phase, e.g. simulation is mainly used at the time of vehicle design. During testing, data acquisition and analysis tools are mainly used. The research group aims to overcome these boundaries and to effectively integrate all tools at all stages of development and testing. In addition to the commercial software that set the standards in the automotive industry, we are building our system of software tools that manage to blur the line between simulation calculations and real tests.
The success of individual analyses and calculations depends to a large extent on the input information available for these purposes. Therefore, efforts are also directed towards developing methods using modern technologies to provide the necessary data.
The research group collaborates with major companies in the automotive industry to develop methods in simulation and virtual and real testing.
