The research focuses on the internal directional arrangement of the tissue structures and their influence on the mechanical properties and behavior of tissues, both soft (arterial, vocal cords) and hard (bone tissue) ones. Analyses are performed using various imaging techniques (Computed Tomography, micro-CT, polarizing microscopy, confocal or multifocal microscopy, holographic microscopy) at different levels of modeling. Constitutive models of inhomogeneous and anisotropic (among others) tissue properties are used for computational modelling in biomechanics, and knowledge of tissue structure is essential for development of these models. Parameters of constitutive models are determined from mechanical tests and from information about the tissue structure.
