Original abstract
Aluminium alloys prepared by rapid solidification methods are very prospective materials, which could be used in many technical applications. In this work, Al-7Fe-4Ni alloy was prepared using the melt spinning method. Thin metallic ribbons were subsequently milled in a planetary ball mill to obtain a fine powder, which was further processed by hot pressing at 500 C. To compare the microstructure of various states of the same material, the alloy was prepared by conventional casting as well. The microstructure of the alloy was described using the scanning electron microscope, hardness and microhardness were measured by the Vickers method. Thermal stability in the form of the hardness change during the annealing time was measured at 300 C and 400 C for 250 h. Rapid solidification significantly refined the microstructure and increased the hardness of the alloy.
