The paper of authors is concentrated to an analysis of the certain topics connected with the process of machining, which are: machining as a technological process, purpose-built machining, depreciation and durability of cutting materials, criteria of depreciation, measuring methods of depreciation of the cutting tools, sorts of the cutting materials and their using in the common practise.

Práce autorů je zaměřena na analýzu určitých témat souvisejících s procesem obrábění, kterými jsou: obrábění jako technologický proces, účelové obrábění, opotřebení a trvanlivost řezných materiálů, kritéria otupení, metody měření opotřebení řezných nástrojů, druhy řezných materiálů a jejich použití v běžné praxi.
