Original abstract
In this contribution we used a Mg-Al-Zn-Ca alloy (AX13) that is characterized by a high aluminium content of 12-15 wt.%. When produced by AM process, this alloy achieves high yield strength, which can be further increased by artificial aging. AX13 wire was produced via casting and subsequent direct extrusion at Light Metals Technologies Ranshofen. WAAM was carried out by a gas-metal arc-welding cold metal transfer (CMT) process (Fronius, Pettenbach, Austria). Using a layer thickness of ca. 2.5 mm a total wall thickness of 5 mm was achieved. A test sample with a dimension of approximately 35 x 40 x 64 mm was extracted from a larger sample and scanned using a Rayscan 250 E system at a voxel size of 40 μm.
