Course detail
Foundry Technology II
FSI-PSL Acad. year: 2018/2019 Winter semester
Basic survey of mould and core technologies, different possibilities of pouring liquid metal into a mould cavity.
The course provides students with basic knowledge of the individual phases of the casting processes and also gives a chance of comparing different manufacturing methods used.
This course is focused primarily to the less "conventional" technologies such as investment casting, lost foam process, vaccuum moulding etc.

Learning outcomes of the course unit
Knowledge of non-conventional foundry technologies i.e.investment
casting and lost foam technologies.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of conventional methods of casting manufacture
and foundry alloys and their properties.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is taught through lectures explaining the basic principles and theory of the discipline. Teaching is suplemented by practical laboratory work.
Assesment methods and criteria linked to learning outcomes
Attendance in lectures is recommended, attendance in exercises is obligatory.
Credit for exercises: semestr project – obligatory
Examination : written and oral exam.
Aims
The main goal of the course is to provide students with knowledge of broad
possibilities of casting manufacture with respect to the
chosen mould and core technology, and pouring system.
Specification of controlled education, way of implementation and compensation for absences
Attendance at lessons is obligatory. Absence may be compensated for by the agreement with the lecturer.
