New biogas treatment technology: BUT cooperates with top European teams
How can biogas be efficiently stripped of carbon dioxide and thus help to decarbonize?
Research activities at the Energy Institute cover areas of non-nuclear and nuclear energy, heat transfer, fluid flow, thermal and fluid machines, efficient energy management, and desirable indoor environmental modifications. Advanced computational tools and experimental laboratories are used in research activities, enabling the study of individual components of related technologies and the evaluation of energy systems as a whole. The institute participates in national and international R&D projects and organizes scientific conferences. The Energy Institute is organizationally divided into three specialized research departments.
The department engages in scientific research in the fields of thermal and nuclear power plants, heating plants, renewable energy sources, energy storage, biomass and waste gasification, low-emission biomass combustion, heat exchangers and condensers, numerical simulations of heat transfer in power plant components, steam turbines, absorption cycles, district heating, fine particle emissions, and flue gas filtration.
The department conducts research in the design, implementation, and operation of ventilation, air conditioning, and heating systems (HVAC systems), including all other components and technologies for creating an optimal indoor environment. It conducts fundamental research in the areas of multiphase flow, aerosols, thermal energy storage with phase change materials, CO2 capture, and human thermal comfort.
The department focuses on research in the design and testing of hydraulic turbines and pumps, flow instability, fluid system dynamics, multiphase flow, waterworks design, computational flow simulation, and experimental modeling of fluid machines and technologies.
